My husband and I decided to set up Cherished Forever after losing our beautiful baby boy Nathaniel at 22 weeks gestation. Having a personalised box to hold all our memories of his short life was an immeasurable help as we tried to come to terms with the loss of our baby. Memories are scant when a very young child dies, so having somewhere special and personalised to keep our memories has helped to keep Nathaniel close to our hearts.
With our boxes comes the option to have a silver keepsake made from your child’s hand or foot print, which can be taken at the hospital. I was fortunate enough to be aware of fingerprint jewellery before we lost Nathaniel, and with the kind help of the Head of Midwifery at the hospital where Nathaniel was born I was able to take away his imprints to have them made into beautiful silver keepsakes which have brought me much comfort since.
Over the last few years I have met a number of mothers who have experienced a similar loss, and all have said how much they wish they could have had a physical reminder of their child; something they can hold; something unique and individual to their baby. With this in mind, I learnt how to make the silver keepsakes myself so that we can offer these tangible memories to other parents.
In providing the boxes, keepsake options, and support literature all together, we hope that the grieving process will be further eased by giving parents one less thing to think about at such a difficult time.
